It’s been a long year, but last week I got to ring the gong after finishing my radiation treatments!
From the team at St. Joseph’s, where this journey began, to everyone at the Cancer Centre at Victoria Hospital, I can’t say enough about the high quality of care I’ve received. Along the way, I’ve met volunteers, clerks, technicians, researchers, nurses, doctors and so many others and every single one of them has been incredible. 100% of them!
Thank you to everyone who does this work every day and made a difficult year that much easier.
🎶 The Strumbellas headline the Western Fair lineup
The Gist: The Western Fair has unveiled its 2026 Bud Light Music Garden lineup, with JUNO Award-winning, multi-platinum folk-rock band The Strumbellas headlining opening night on September 11. The 10-day fair runs through September 20, with live music every day from performers including London rockers Texas King, Canadian ’80s favourites Chalk Circle and several tribute acts.
Why It Matters: The Western Fair is one of London’s biggest annual traditions, and all Music Garden performances are included with fair admission. That means visitors can catch a full concert while enjoying the midway, fair food and everything else happening on the grounds.
✈️ Porter Airlines is coming to London's airport
The Gist: Toronto-based Porter Airlines announced on August 26 that it will fly out of London International Airport for the first time, starting in November with southbound winter routes. CEO Michael Deluce said the service will benefit the wider London region, and the airline plans to add domestic flights connecting London across Canada by 2027.
Why It Matters: A new carrier at YXU usually means more competition and more choice, so getting out of town, or escaping a London winter, could get a little easier from home. The first Porter flights are scheduled to take off in November.
☕ A taste of Colombia in downtown London
The Gist: Maira Colonia and Fabian Ospina have opened Almore Coffee at 495 Richmond Street, opposite St. Peter’s Cathedral Basilica. After starting three years ago as a mobile cart at local festivals, the couple moved into the former vacant space in late June. Their drinks feature beans sourced directly from Colonia’s family farm, La Isabella, in the Andes mountains, alongside pastries and a three-drink coffee flight.
Why It Matters: Both owners grew up on coffee farms in Colombia, and they are bringing that rich agricultural heritage straight to our city core. It turns a long-empty storefront into a warm third space where locals can connect over a truly authentic cup of coffee.
🏹 A “zodiac” space serving global flavours
175 Wortley Rd, London
Set back from the street in a red-brick house, Sagi of Wortley pairs a snug room with ambitious Asian fusion.
Named for the owners’ shared Sagittarius signs, the kitchen shifts with the seasons, sending out crispy pork and shrimp gyoza, bulgogi ribeye frites with cilantro lime crème, and savory arancini rice balls. Order a crisp jalapeño paloma, settle in for courteous service, and reserve a table ahead, it is well worth it.
📚 Three floors of timeless curiosity
240 Dundas St, London
A rainy afternoon is the perfect excuse to explore Attic Books, one of Canada’s largest bookstores. Marvin Post founded the shop in 1976, and it has called its beautiful Dundas Street building home since 1996. Inside, three floors are filled with secondhand and rare books, maps, prints, postcards and unexpected treasures, all surrounded by original tin ceilings and hardwood maple floors. Give yourself plenty of time to browse because there is always something unexpected waiting on the shelves.
