One of my favourite parts of being in this community is getting to reconnect with people who are building something meaningful.
This week, I had the chance to catch up with Jim Clark from Ontario Corn Fed Beef. If you’ve seen their products in stores, you already know the quality. What you don’t always see is the pride behind it… locally raised, thoughtfully produced, and supporting Canadian agriculture at scale.
Jim may be camera shy, but the impact of what they’re doing isn’t.
It’s a good reminder that behind so many of the products we buy, there are real people, real families, and real stories worth supporting.
When you can buy local, it matters.

200 Years of London
In 1847, a small brewery opened along the Thames River.
It didn’t look like much at the time. Just a local operation, supplying beer to a growing town. But it was built close to water, close to transport, and close to opportunity.
Over time, that small brewery became Labatt Brewing Company. One of the most recognized names in the country.
It wasn’t the only one.
Kellogg Canada established a major presence in London in the early 1900s, producing cereal for generations of Canadian households.
3M Canada built out manufacturing operations here, contributing to the city’s industrial backbone.
And companies like EllisDon started locally and grew into national players.
London didn’t just grow by attracting business. Some of its biggest names started here.

🌳 Applications for 2026 Tree Canopy Conservation Program

The Gist: The City of London is now accepting applications for its 2026 Tree Canopy Conservation Programme, which offers financial assistance to property owners who want to care for and preserve mature trees on private land. Eligible trees must be at least 40 centimetres in diameter, and work must be carried out by a qualified arborist. The programme reimburses eligible costs up to $1,000 per tree for services like structural pruning, cabling, soil care, and pest management.
Why It Matters: London didn't earn the nickname "The Forest City" by accident. The City's Urban Forest Strategy sets a long-term target of 34% tree canopy cover by 2065, and getting there means protecting the mature trees that already exist, not just planting new ones. A healthy urban canopy means cooler streets, cleaner air, better stormwater management, and more liveable neighbourhoods for everyone. This programme makes it easier for homeowners to do their part.
🐟 Underwater Drone Uncovers a Fish City Hiding in Bruce Power's Thermal Plume

The Gist: A pair of documentary filmmakers are using a rare underwater drone to explore parts of the Great Lakes most of us never get to see. Near the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station in Ontario, they found something pretty incredible-looking: thousands of fish from different species gathering together in the warm water flowing into Lake Huron.
Why It Matters: As striking as it is, scientists say it’s actually a warning sign. The fish are crowding there because food has become much harder to find in the rest of the lake, after invasive mussels dramatically changed the ecosystem. So what looks like an underwater hotspot is really another reminder of how much the Great Lakes have already changed.

🍽️ Cozy, craveable, and one of the best on Richmond

476 Richmond St, London, ON N6A 3E6
The Church Key Bistro-Pub is a downtown London spot that’s easy to settle into. Tucked along Richmond Street, this cozy gastropub blends Canadian comfort and European-inspired cooking in a way that feels thoughtful without trying too hard. The menu leans into satisfying seasonal plates, and the craft beer list gives you plenty of reasons to stay awhile.
The courtyard is a big part of the appeal. It’s one of the lovelier places to spend an evening in the city, with a setting that feels tucked away in the best way. Add in vegan options that truly stand on their own and cocktails that keep things interesting, and it’s easy to see why this place has such a loyal following.

🎨 Where London's creative side comes to life

421 Ridout St N, London, ON N6A 5H4
Museum London is easy to enjoy once it’s on your radar. Right at the Forks of the Thames, it has a beautiful setting, a strong collection of Canadian and southwestern Ontario art, and a quiet, welcoming feel that makes it a nice way to spend your afternoon.
It’s also worth keeping in mind because they regularly offer drop-in programmes and free admission days that can be easy to miss. If it’s been a while since your last visit, this is a lovely time to go back!
