This year, Emma and I have been volunteering on weekends with Project Hope London. It’s a grassroots, 100% volunteer-led group supporting people experiencing homelessness with hot meals, clothing, and essential supplies.

Every week, their outreach team now serves over 400 meals to those in need, including hot food, sandwiches, snacks, water, and baked goods. They also provide men’s and women’s clothing, toiletries, and small comfort items that go a long way.

They’re incredibly hands-on behind the scenes. Donations are received and sorted at City Centre Storage on Tuesdays (3:00–6:00 PM) and Saturdays (12:30–2:00 PM). They’re always looking for clean, in-season clothing for men and women, bottled water, and toiletries.

Such a dedicated team!  Thank you for all you do!

If you want to follow along or see what’s needed week to week, they actively post updates, just click here.

It’s been a meaningful way for us to give back locally and stay connected to what’s happening in the community.

Curious, does anyone else have something they’re involved in right now? Hit reply and tell me about it!

🚨 Firefighters launch 'Sound the Alarm' campaign

The Gist: The London Fire Department kicked off its 2026 'Sound the Alarm, Stay Fire Safe' campaign, with firefighters heading door-to-door to inspect smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Deputy Chief Gary Bridge noted that crews visited roughly 15,000 homes during last year’s campaign and found many properties without working detectors. This year, teams are focusing on student housing near Fanshawe College, where residents frequently remove alarm batteries to power other household devices like remote controls.

Why It Matters: By targeting student neighbourhoods, local crews are protecting young people who might be living on their own for the first time. It is a vital safety check to ensure a simple borrowed battery does not lead to a preventable tragedy in our community.

🏰 Storybook Gardens is officially open for the 2026 season

The Gist: Storybook Gardens reopened Saturday, May 16th, for its 2026 spring and summer season, with the splash pad, miniature play village, and amusement rides all back in operation. The Springbank Park family attraction has been a London tradition since 1958. General admission is $10.70 per person, with kids under 24 months free, and a season pass valid through September 7th pays for itself in four visits.

Why It Matters: With repeat-visit pricing, it’s one of the more affordable family days in the city. Twilight admission hours (3 to 6 p.m., $6.20 per person) begin daily, including Sensory Friendly Thursdays.

🥗 A fresh patio pick for plant-based dining

162 Wortley Rd, London, ON

Plant Matter Kitchen remains the gold standard for intentional dining on the Wortley Road strip. With the patio now open, the energy has shifted outdoors, making it the ideal spot for a sun-drenched spritz or a main-character açaí bowl topped with fresh fruit and crunch.

The menu manages to be 100 percent plant-based while remaining deeply indulgent. The hot honey brie and bacun flatbread is a crowd favourite for sharing, though the truffled mushroom blue cheese rigatoni is the sophisticated choice for a long lunch.

The commitment to London craftsmanship is simply evident in every corner.

🧗 Reaching new heights

1030 Elias St, London, ON

Energies are still high at Junction Climbing Centre from the long weekend, making it the perfect time to visit this bright, air-conditioned retreat hidden just off Quebec Street.

The modern space features a vast boulder wall with fifty regularly refreshed problems and a variety of auto-belay heights for every skill level. Between the great music and the patient, attentive staff, the atmosphere stays genuinely friendly.

It’s a well-organized spot for a fun afternoon of climbing.
