This week, our washing machine decided it was done cooperating and held our clothes hostage mid-cycle. So there I was on the laundry room floor, tools spread everywhere, trying to negotiate the release of a very wet hoodie and a pile of towels.
I’m happy to report the repair was successful and normal laundry operations have officially resumed. Yes, thank you to YouTube for the successful video showing me what steps to take to have my clothes returned to me. Thank you to my dad for the gift of a socket wrench set and thanks to my brother for the allen key set… all needed!

🎶 Home County celebrates 50 years
The Gist: Home County Music & Art Festival returns to Victoria Park on July 24 and 25 for its 50th anniversary. This year’s lineup includes JUNO winner Boogát, Indigenous electronic duo The Halluci Nation, Treaty 6 singer-songwriter Wyatt C. Louis, Nicolette & the Nobodies and Friday headliner The Rural Alberta Advantage.
Why It Matters: After being cancelled in 2024 and returning as a smaller one-day event in 2025, Home County is back with its first full two-day festival in three years. The longtime London tradition remains volunteer-run and admission is by donation, making it an easy way to enjoy live music and celebrate a major local milestone.
🛡️ Nearly $2 billion vehicle contract lands in London
The Gist: Prime Minister Mark Carney visited General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada in London on July 16 to announce a nearly $2 billion contract for 190 additional Armoured Combat Support Vehicles. The four-year order will expand the Canadian Armed Forces fleet from 360 to 550 vehicles, with production taking place at the London facility and supporting suppliers across Canada.
Why It Matters: This is a major investment in London’s manufacturing sector and should provide steady work at General Dynamics and throughout its Canadian supply chain. It also reinforces the city’s long-standing role in Canada’s defence industry and brings another large federal contract to one of London’s best-known employers.
