We had a big project tackled at our house with a large tree in our backyard finally getting some much-needed attention. The team from Grove Tree Service spent the entire day trimming and shaping it, and the results were incredible. A huge shout-out to their crew for the professionalism, hard work, and care they put into the job!

On another local note, Beal Secondary School is hosting its annual BealArt Show, where students in the art program showcase and sell their work. If you're looking to support emerging local artists, it's a great opportunity to discover some amazing talent while helping both the students and the BealArt program.

🍿 Free movies under the stars

The Gist: The City of London is bringing back its free Outdoor Movie Nights in neighbourhood parks across the city starting Friday, June 19, 2026. Hosted in partnership with local resident groups, the massive lineup features dozens of free screenings running through September 19, with movies starting at dusk between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. No tickets or registration are required, but families should bring their own lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks.
Why It Matters: This is a wonderful, accessible way for families and neighbours to connect close to home without spending a dime. Turning our local parks into outdoor cinemas gives everyone a chance to enjoy London's green spaces and rebuild that great sense of community spirit after a long winter.
🏊♀️ A Belleville Alum Heads to the Hall of Fame
The Gist: Marie Claire Bilyk, who competed as Marie Claire Ross, was named to the London Sports Hall of Fame on June 3 for her standout career in visually impaired para-swimming. Bilyk became legally blind as a child, later training with the London Aquatic Club and winning 10 medals across the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Paralympics, including two golds. She will be officially inducted this November.
Why It Matters: Her story is a proud local reminder of what can grow from determination, great coaching, and community support. From school in Belleville to elite training in London, Bilyk’s career still stands as an example for young athletes learning that a different path can still lead somewhere remarkable.

🍝 Handmade pasta, family ties, and effortless charm

119 King St, London
Right across from Covent Garden Market, Abruzzi smoothly bridges the gap between neighbourhood bistro and elegant Italian ristorante. With patio season peaking and Father’s Day around the corner, their sunlit dining room offers just the thing to get you through summer and beyond.
The seasonally shifting menu shines with in-house cured guanciale and dry-aged beef from the chef’s brother’s butcher shop in Woodstock. Order the porcini-dusted Nagano pork loin or the iconic grilled beef tenderloin with crispy gnocchi, pair it with a boutique Italian pour, and settle in.

🐻 A portal to local craft and heritage

1712 Dundas St, Third St Entrance, London
Inside Gibraltar Weekend Market, Bear’s Den Native Crafts brings Indigenous-made goods and teachings into one thoughtful Old East shop. Owned by Daniel N. Pelletier, a Métis Pipe Carrier and accomplished drum maker, the store is especially meaningful to visit during National Indigenous History Month and ahead of the 30th anniversary of National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21.
Enter through the Third Street doors to find moccasins, hand drums, sweetgrass, and new arrivals like small Minigan Salve. It’s a warm place to browse, learn, and support Indigenous craft.
